Transition and Community Engagement

Transition and Community Engagement

At Cranbourne East Secondary College we strive to make each student’s transition from Primary School to Secondary School a positive experience. We achieve this through a supportive Orientation Program provided for Year 7 students at the beginning of their first year at the College. There are various programs offered to provide ongoing support for students throughout each school year.

Primary School Connection

Leaders proactively engage with Primary Schools to ensure we get to know students attending CESC and support transition as best we can. This includes visiting schools to meet with students and staff, attending handover meetings, and sharing data.

Orientation Day

The state-wide Orientation Day occurs on the second Tuesday in December. We host all incoming students for the day, exposing them to a day in the life of a Year 7. It is a great opportunity to meet staff, other students, and get to know their new surroundings. Plenty of fun is had by all.

Transition Days

In addition to the state-wide Orientation Day, CESC hosts transition and engagement days throughout Term 4. These sessions provide opportunities for smaller groups of students to attend the college, meet key staff members and participate in a range of social activities designed to ease any concerns about the transition from Grade 6 to Year 7. The Transition and Engagement leaders curate a list of students that would benefit from these opportunities and create a custom program.

Welcome Week

In the first full week of Year 7, we run an alternate program that support students to get to know the college. This includes locker allocation, learning about locks, reading timetables, accessing Compass and school emails, setting up devices, tours of the school, getting to know you activities, and much more.

Year 7 Welcome BBQ

During Term 1, the Year 7 leaders, classroom teachers and support staff host a welcome BBQ for all students and families. This is an excellent opportunity for our community to come together, meet and greet with staff, ask any questions you may have and enjoy our facilities.
