Humanities

Humanities is the study of human society and culture. Humanities is a compulsory subject from Year 7 to 10 that allows students to develop key knowledge relating to our four key domains (Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, History and Geography), while also developing the lifelong skills that are required to become active participants within a global world.

At Cranbourne East Secondary College our students are given the opportunity to study subject areas such as:

The focus is on studying Australian society and understanding our sense of national identity, including what makes Australia unique as a country. Students then investigate the role of politics, government and governing, including the creation of laws and their impact on the lives of all Australians.

The focus is on the study of important people, events and places from our past. Students explore early civilisations, with a particular focus on Egypt, investigate life in the Middle Ages, discuss historical perspectives on World War One and World War Two, while developing an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and experiences.

The focus is on the way individuals, business and government make decision about the best use of resources. This requires students to explore personal finance and budgeting, economic decision making, develop understanding of economic issues and consequences, while investigating the role that marketing, supply and demand have on customer decision making.

The focus is on the study of places and people, including the way humans interact with each other. Students investigate liveability factors, the role of megacities, types of living conditions, issues of biomes and food security, while determining ways to measure and analyse human wellbeing within society.

At Year 10, we offer an elective based program that provides opportunity for students to select areas of interest within the Humanities to further investigate:
