Year 10 at Cranbourne East Secondary College focuses on a positive learning environment aimed at preparing students for their future pathways. We have high expectations from our students in regards to work ethic, homework, behaviour, uniform and punctuality and offer an engaging program aimed to develop leadership and confidence.

The Year 10 course is designed to prepare the students for either the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) with accelerated learning through VCE subjects as well as Vocational Education and Training (VET) Taste Tester programs on offer.

In addition to mainstream Year 10, there are 4 Branch Out Programs of offer for students:

The STEM program is a great opportunity for students to extend themselves in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Students who apply for this program will complete the same core subjects as the rest of the cohort and will also be extended in completing advanced maths and science activities as well as work with peers in completing technology and engineering inquiry tasks. There are also opportunities to participate in competitions, workshops and seminars that are facilitated by Melbourne University, Monash University, Northern Hospital, Leap Foundation and other leading organisations. Our school’s STEM program is affiliated with the CSIRO and the scientists in school partnership. This partnership allows a range of professionals from the science industry to mentor our STEM students.

The STEM Program provides students with the pathway into either VCE or VCAL.

The Applied Learning stream will provide students with a greater understanding of Vocational training.  There will be opportunities for Industry experience and all students in the stream will be enrolled a VET taster program (VET Sport & Recreation and Kitchen Operations), which will provide real skill training, whilst gaining VET credits in their VCAL the following year.

In addition, they will undertake projects and practical activities that build on student’s skills, knowledge and attitudes, to assist them to make informed choices about pathways to work or further education. The V.I.N.E Program leads into Year 11 VCAL.

The Sport Pathway Program is a specialist sport program which is designed for capable athletes from all sporting interests. The Sport Pathway Program is a full-time, integrated, academic program which allow students to develop their athletic ability while concurrently receiving a high quality secondary education.

The SPP exposes students to a variety of educational and practical experiences which aim to shape their future pathways in the sporting field. The program also contains a competitive physical activity environment to develop team work and leadership skills as well as physical skills and the training of sport specific fitness components. Students will have access to coaches from professional sporting clubs such as Melbourne Storm (NRL), Melbourne Demons (AFL) and Casey Cavaliers (BIGV Basketball).

Within the program there will be theoretical units on sports nutrition, injury prevention and sporting pathways.

The Sports Pathway Program provides students with the pathway into either VCE or VCAL.

During the year, students begin to consider their career options and they are guided and assisted through work experience, career expos, study skills and course counselling so they can make informed choices about Year 11 and beyond. Every student has the opportunity to pursue their goals through core subject offerings and elective choices to suit their needs.

Year 10 Student Voice

The Year 10 team values the student voice program, which is a key strategy in the promotion of student leadership and engagement within Cranbourne East Secondary College. It also plays a key role in improving and strengthening community links between students, parents and the wider CESC community.

The Student Voice teams works collaboratively with the Class Captains and the Year Level Leaders to provide students with the opportunity to voice their opinion, discuss any concerns that individuals or classes may have and build a positive school environment.

It is imperative that we acknowledge the achievements and positive work ethic of our students throughout the year to encourage and support them to continually strive for academic and personal success. In Year 10, students are rewarded for excellence, endeavour, uniform and 100% attendance. We also have a ‘raffle ticket’ reward program where students are rewarded in recognition of students upholding the values of the College. Students are recognised during regular assemblies, showcases of learning and morning teas. They also compete in Home Group Trivia Challenges. These opportunities will continue throughout the Year.
